The leading female MC in Latin America, the incredibly talented Ana Tijoux exploded onto the international scene in 2009 with her Grammy-nominated smash debut album ‘1977’ which hit #1 on the iTunes charts and won widespread critical acclaim.

Ana’s hit single, the title track ‘1977’, was featured in shows such as ‘Breaking Bad’ and the soundtrack to the EA Sports’ videogame FIFA ’11. It was also iTunes Single Of The Week, has had over 1.5 million views on YouTube and was performed on Grammy weekend with The Roots as her backing band. Thom Yorke (Radiohead) also listed it as one of his favourite tracks.

La Bala is the highly anticipated follow-up album to ‘1977’ and is Ana’s first local release.

La Bala features 11 new songs from Ana, featuring collaborations with Academy Award winning musician Jorge Drexler, Chilean rap crew Solo Di Medina (formerly La Pozze Latina), and Cuban hip-hop group Los Aldeanos. The album was recorded in Tijoux’s hometown of Santiago, Chile, and mixed and mastered in Detroit, Michigan.

The new album’s lead single, coincidentally titled ‘Shock’, is political testimony to the massive student protests occurring in Chile and around the world. “Writing this song, I was inspired by these social movements, writing from my perspective as a mother, musician and citizen. I thought it was important to pay homage to these protesters,” say Tijoux.
