I’m a current year 12 student, 18 years old, attend many shows (from local to international) and have a strong passion for both writing and social media. I have previous experience writing for Rip It Up magazine, and have also been writing for Alt Music Hub recently. I would love the chance to join the shock team, and love a variety of artists on your roster; from British India through to NOFX and Hellogoodbye. Thanks!
You want to pick me because I live for music. You want to pick me because I love music. I’m obsessed and passionate about music. I live amongst the Melbourne scene, booking Mammoth Mammoth and writing for a number of publications including veri.live, Cock No.7, The 59th Sound and my own blog http://SomethingSweetToThrowAway.blogspot.com. I immerse myself in my vinyl and CD collection as well as seeing live bands, listen to all genres though my favourite’s are Kyuss, Queens Of The Stone Age, John Frusciante, Fangs, Magic Dirt, DEAD, Paris Wells. I also love watching DVD’s including comedy, arthouse, action and of course music! In the past had my own column on one of Australia’s then biggest music sites, Metalshop run by Roadrunner Records, as well as being involved in community radio for 4 years. Being both an on air presenter for that period with several shows as well the Promotions Director on the Management Committee. You just want to pick me… only one catch… I happen to be over 23.
I’m a first year journalism student studying at UTS and based in western Sydney. I have been interested in writing and music my whole life, and attend several shows every week. My areas of specialty are local and international hardcore, punk and pop-punk such as Balance and Composure, Heroes For Hire and Carpathian, although my music taste encapsulates all genres. My interest in film and television is also widespread, taking in everything from children’s programs to crime dramas like Blue Murder. My comprehensive understanding of film and music, combined with my passion for sharing new and exciting artists with others, makes me the prime candidate to join the Shock team.
Can we email applications to someone rather than making it an open blog post?
Dear Shock Records,
I should be your blogger as I enjoy getting free stuff (and I also love music/movies/blogging). For the last year and a bit I was getting lots of free stuff as a writer at Citysearch, scribing previews for music festivals, top ten Harry Potter moment movie snippets and so forth. But then it all went Pete Tong – my music editor got canned and the ex Chief Ed left, both ‘neglecting’ to pass on my role and responsibilities to the new Ed because they were pissed I refused to keep doing an editors role for free (I officially work for another dept. in the company – it’s complicated).
So whilst I am left to post my musical and movie musings on my own site, Sawyersays.com, alas it does not yet score me free shit (but does let me keep doing what I love: e.g. gabbing bout music and movies). And you see, I have grown accustomed to getting free shit and would like to get more. But mostly I just want to work with people who care about music and movies as much as I do.
Sincerely yours (if you’ll have me),
Sawyer
I am 17 years old and I am currently a year 11 student at a school in Melbourne. I am a huge music fan and I love most types of music. I am interested in a lot of the bands you supply such as Calling All Cars, From First To Last, The Gaslight Anthem, I Am Ghost and many, many more.
I mainly listen to Punk, Metal and Hardcore, although I am very open to a lot of different genres and give everything a listen before I judge it.
I am a very active blogger and I aim to update my site daily and regularly and hope to get as many people to see it as possible.
I try to attend as many live gigs as possible, although often I cannot afford to go. I have been to quite a few of my local gigs such as the local Battle Of The Bands and supporting friends’ bands at small, independent gigs, and I have also been able to attend some bigger gigs (most of them organised by Soundwave), and still have quite a few shows still to go to before the year is out.
Thank-you,
Stephanie
It’s always worth a shot to be able to have a voice and an input to society, but what’s even better is this given opportunity to share my thoughts on what these amazing artists have been able to produce; how these songs evoke my emotions– Paramore, City and Colour, Stereophonics, Fiasco, Led Zeppelin, Maroon 5, Iron & Wine, Kanye West, Switchfoot, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd and No Doubt are just a few of the artists that definitely make my ears tingle. They are always echoing a great sound in my mind.
I’m an all-rounder in different genres of music, but I’d have to say I’ll always have a passion for classic rock and indie. Mainly inspired by Supernatural (e.g. Blue Oyster Cult) or House (e.g. The Who). Supernatural: fresh storylines and best tracks played!
My name is Sheena Mabilangan, a year 10 student in town SE of Melbourne. I’m a sporty girl into, netball but behind the scenes I’m either playing guitar riffs, sketching, singing or playing piano. I believe with my hopes and passion in the music industry, I have what it takes; the heart and determination to write about the music and the story that’s withheld in the DVD.
Sincerely,
Sheena M
As a 19 year old Business/Media and Communication student living in Brisbane there are three things that I love in life; sport, music, and telling other people my opinion about sport and music. My music tastes primarily lie in all genres punk/the many ‘cores but also branch out to aussie hip hop all the way to indie pop. I have attended many shows incorporating all of these genres and enjoy writing a little piece at the end of most, even if it is for my eyes only. DVD wise, I enjoy comedy, action, and music documentaries. I also like free stuff (who wouldn’t?). However, what I am looking for most out of this is the money can’t buy experience of writing for a major company for the first time.
Regards,
Jake Myers
Frank is a 22 year old stud who hasn’t been able to cope well since the demise of disco music in the late 70′s. Since then, he has has been forced to broaden his musical horizon and enjoys listening to most genres ranging from progressive rock/metal, electronica, sludge, doom, desert punk, hip-hop and everything in between. In his spare time, Frank enjoys growing stomach hair, collecting finger nails and blogging. Links to past work can be found here: http://sounderrated.com/author/francisonfire/. Mr Brincat hopes to one day own his own olive grove in the Southern Italy and father exactly 8 illegitimate children.
I am hungry for new music and constantly searching for the best sounds. My music taste could not be nailed down to any one genre. Having relocated from Edinburgh to Melbourne I have embraced the Australian music and film industry as well as work within events such as ‘Womadelaide’ and ‘Falls’. Since moving to Melbourne I have never missed a ‘Tropfest’ and I am on first name terms with my local Video Ezy! The opportunity to work within Shock and it’s community would be unbelievable as well as being able to converse with like minded people and LEARN.
My name’s Lachlan, and I’m a second year Journalism based in Newcastle. Music is definitely something I’d like to be writing about in my career, and the opportunity to work with Shock Records would be a brilliant way to start out. I already have experience writing on music, movies and other aspects of entertainment, and am currently working as Entertainment & Technology Editor of the University of Newcastle’s Yak Magazine.
I love plenty of the bands on Shock’s roster, including City and Colour, Frenzal Rhomb, British India, Bodyjar (if only they’d put out a new album!), Prodigy, NOFX and NIN.
Also a keen musician myself, so I know exactly what I’m writing about when describing a band’s sound and style.
I write in a fairly relaxed style, and I feel that’s what you would need for your new blogger, to keep everything accessible to the audience. With all this taken into consideration, I think I’d be an excellent choice to join your online team!
Great article, I just given this onto a co-worker who was doing a little research on that. And he in fact purchased me lunch because I discovered it for him
